Photos

These are a few pictures that have been shown in my History of Photography class this semester, and I wanted to share them because they're some of my favorites we've learned about so far. (There was no way to save the picture from where I got them, so forgive the poor quality; I had to take a picture of my computer screen.)

Can you believe this picture was taken 100 years before I was even born? Incredible.

Vampire Diaries

I'm sure a lot of you have at least heard of this show even if you've never watched it. Well, I'm one of the many Twilight fans who has found a new love in Vampire Diaries. It's a new tv series based on the book written by L. J. Smith. At first you think that since it's about vampires, it must be just like Twilight. But it's not! It's a lot darker, and these books actually came out way before Twilight (in 1991), so L. J. Smith didn't copy Stephenie Meyers or anything. When I first saw the preview several weeks ago, I thought it looked pretty dumb; it's on CW and it looked low-budget. It's so good though! My roommates and I all love it. In last week's episode, one of the main characters (Damon, on the left) even referred to Twilight and it was pretty funny. There have been 8 episodes so far, and it comes on on Thursdays at 7. I have all the episodes on tape (except the first one) if you want to catch up and watch them!!

BLTC

Before tonight, I'd never had a BLT. I've had the opportunity plenty of times, but it's just never sounded appetizing to me. Bacon isn't one of my favorites, I used to hate raw tomatoes, and combining them with lettuce and bread just sounded weird; it didn't seem like a real sandwich to me.
Anyway, the other day I got a strange desire to buy bacon. It was cheap and sounded really good at the time. I'd never bought bacon before, and I'd never even personally cooked it. (I've seen it prepared many, many times though, so I knew how to make it crispy--just the way I like it.) Then tonight I decided to have a BLT for the first time, since it seems like I'm the only person who's been "missing out." Well let me tell you, it was pretty good! I've been missing out with the flavor, but at least I haven't been eating all that greasy bacon. And I decided to put cheese on it. I think it added something extra. So in actuality, I had a BLTC, and it was so happy.

Questions: What condiments do you put on the sandwich? Mayonnaise? Mustard? Ketchup? Any or all of the above?
One thing I learned: Always toast the bread for BLTs. I'm sure all of you knew that already, but I didn't. After I took one bite I put the sandwich under the broiler to toast it on both sides. It made it SO much better, so next time I'll be sure to toast the bread before I put everything on it. :)

Lashes to Riches

My cousin, Brianne, was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis a few years ago and has already gone blind in her right eye. Her husband, Branndon, has entered the Lashes to Riches contest to try and win $100,000 so he can buy an RV and travel the country with her before they have kids or she goes completely blind. He's been keeping it a secret from her, but I thought I'd help him out by trying to get his Youtube video to reach more people. Please watch it and help in any way you can to get his video noticed! Click here to watch his video. Thank you!

Morning Frost

When I woke up one morning last week, I looked at the outside covered parking and saw that the shadows of the building had made a pattern with the frost! Wherever the sun wasn't touching yet, the frost hadn't melted. It just made me happy. :)

Halloween Eve

Happy Halloween!
Last night was a lot of fun! A lot more fun than I thought it would be. Lexi, her sister (Kaylyn), and I dressed up and went to our stake dance at the Wilkinson's Center. At first I was a little iffy about the amount of people there, but after only a few minutes the crowd filled out.
Select events of the evening: Alfalfa led the crowd in the Thriller dance, 2 Rihanna songs were played (woot!), and there were some great costumes. Max (from Where the Wild Things Are; he wore footy pajamas and a crown), pigs in a blanket, Buddy the elf, peanut butter and jelly (a couple who came together; it was cute), Westley (from The Princess Bride; he looked exactly like him), Anastasia's dad, etc. Lexi was an army girl (with combat boots, a cut-off skirt, and camouflage shirt), Kaylyn was a nerd, and I was a High School Musical cast member (just wore church clothes under a red graduation gown.) Lexi was originally going to be that, but changed her mind at the last minute. I was going to be a witch, but changed my mind at the last minute! So there ya go. Win win win situation. It was a really fun night though! I ended up getting in bed around midnight, and 45 minutes later I got a text from Heather, who spontaneously ended up coming to spend the night! I helped a little with her costume preparations, which was fun.

Anyway, I'm going to get lots of productive things done today, and then probably just end up watching a movie with some people tonight. Let me know if there's a party or dance I can't miss!
